Let me help you conceive with Hypnotherapy for Fertility.

Getting pregnant isn't just about having sex at the 'right' time or going through the motions of IVF. The mind has a powerful influence on the whole process of conception.

When people ask me about my work and I tell them that I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist, that I specialise in treating fertility problems using Hypnosis; many of them respond with surprise.

People who don’t know about hypnosis are curious to know how Hypnotherapy could possibly help people with fertility problems.

Reducing stress is one of the most widely known uses of Hypnosis for fertility problems. And yet people often ask me how and why this works.
The use of hypnosis during embryo transfer doubles the IVF/ET outcome in terms of increased implantation and clinical pregnancy rates. Furthermore, it seems the patient’s attitude to treatment was more favourable.

I meet with clients initially for a free consultation, in this session we chat, and I find out how I can best support you and your partner. I then make recommendations tailoring the sessions to your needs. Every couple is different; therefore, every session or sessions are different too. I may work with the woman alone or with her partner together, or with the partners alone. I will create personalised audios you can listen to, that reinforce all the work we do together in the sessions.
The effects of stress on health have been widely documented and have become recognised as one of the major contributing factors to poor health.

All of the different systems of are body work in fine balance together. A bad day at work, pressure to get pregnant, the stresses and strains of life in general all affect your health, it is not surprising that anything which affects your overall health will have a negative impact on fertility.

A mind and body approach gets your body back into balance and helps you to feel great. It is also known that stress directly affects the hormonal system.

The Hypothalamus regulates both the stress response as well as sex hormones and so prolonged periods of stress will create hormonal imbalances which can result in problems conceiving.

When you are stressed or in a state of high alert your hyper stimulated nervous system will send less blood to the uterus and ovaries, thereby impairing their optimal functioning.

The freeze, fight or flight response, which is nature’s way of helping us to stay safe, will trigger the release of adrenaline which also inhibits the production of progesterone.

After a prolonged period of stress and decreased levels of progesterone, the menstrual cycle will be affected and fertility may also be impeded.

During hypnosis when you are super relaxed, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated, giving rise to what is known as the rest and digest response.

When this relaxation response is activated you’ll enter a state of deep physical relaxation. The two responses can’t work at the same time so when you are relaxed the freeze, flight or fight response is switched off.

This allows you to return to a calm balanced state. Whilst in this state your heart rate drops, blood pressure is lowered, your breathing rate slows down, stress hormone levels drop and muscle tension is released. You’ll experience a wonderful feeling of relaxation.

Simply being in the state of hypnosis can help to increase fertility.

If, however we don’t deal with the underlying issues, be it lifestyle, diet, negative thoughts experiences or whatever is maintaining high levels of stress and disharmony in the body, the benefits of the session are short lived.

I may teach you self-hypnosis this will be a great benefit, I will also help you to address any unhealthy beliefs and lifestyle habits that may be contributing to high levels of stress.

Although reducing stress is an important goal during hypnotherapy, there are many other ways in which hypnosis can be useful.

To increase fertility, it is often necessary for people to address what I call psychological contraceptives.

When you first fall in love, you feel warm and safe, romantic, loved. These are the perfect conditions for making a baby. These thoughts and feelings create the perfect hormonal, natural chemical mix that makes your body highly fertile.

As your relationship progresses things change, with often additional pressures, and if you’ve been trying for a baby for a while perhaps sex has become robotic or systematic, only happening at specific times or happening lots but for function not pleasure.

During the Hypnotherapy sessions we will address any psychological blocks and remove them. I help couples to prepare for their baby in many ways, I ensure they have all the tools and resources they need to for any medical treatment, as well as helping them to prepare for pregnancy and birth.

Sometimes during this work we become aware of fears around having or not being able to have children.

In the sessions I will help you to address any fears about pregnancy, parenthood or your relationship as these thoughts can unconsciously prevent conception.

As well as studying Obstetrics, Advanced Reflexology for Fertility, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Mayan Fertility Massage I use Hypnotherapy techniques that bring about optimum fertility.

We know that woman suffering from depression, stress and anxiety are twice as likely to have problems conceiving. In one study 60% of women who were treated for depression got pregnant within a 6 month period, as opposed to only 24% of untreated women (Nicholas, M ‘3 Steps to Fertility' pg49)

A study in Germany showed that men on death row found that they all had a very low sperm count. (Domar, A ‘Conquering Infertility: A mind body guide to enhancing fertility and coping with Infertility' pg 30)

Another study showed that women who had experienced at least one unsuccessful IVF cycle and who had depressive symptoms before continuing IVF treatment experienced a 13% subsequent pregnancy rate, in contrast to a 29% pregnancy rate in women who did not experience depressive symptoms before their IVF cycle. (Domar, A ‘Conquering Infertility: A mind body guide to enhancing fertility and coping with Infertility' pg 24)
